Here at Southern Hills we believe that we are formed as God's people around the Lord's Table. This is where we discover week after week, that despite all the divisions we experience in the world, we are brothers and sisters together in receipt of the grace of Jesus Christ. There are many activities and ministries we might discontinue and still be the church. But worship is not one of them. Worship is the one essential function of the church and for the Christian. Worship is where everything else begins. That's why in recent years we have given priority to developing vital services of worship to meet diverse needs.
Traditional/Blended
The Traditional Service is held at 9:00 A.M. in the sanctuary. It is traditional in format and yet musically blended. Our gifted Sanctuary Choir, Southern Bells Handbell Choir, and instrumentalists provide a rich variety of musical expression. Sermons generally follow the common lectionary biblical readings and observe the seasons of the church year. The Lord's Supper is the culminating act of worship in this worshipping community.
Contemporary
The Contemporary Service is held in the sanctuary at 11:30 A.M. This high-energy service, is led by our extraordinary worship band and praise team and is characterized by heart-felt singing; an informal, interactive message; drama and other creative arts; and sharing the bread and cup.
Taize'
Our Taizé (pronounced teh-ZAY) service is held every first and third Sundays of the month at 5:30 pm. The service is meditative in nature and includes periods of contemplative silence, prayer, reading, singing and communion. The Taizé community in France, an ecumenical community, was founded in 1940 and continues today. People of all denominations worldwide have not only visited the community but have returned to their homes to create a Taizé service patterned after the Taizé worship style. In this way, Taizé worship experiences have spread worldwide. When you attend our Taizé service, our prayer is that you will find a peaceful and deep experience of God.
