Ever wondered how the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) started? Ever wonder why “Disciples of Christ” is always in parentheses? Curious about the Church Jesus came to establish and how it evolved after his death? Ever wondered what the Reformation or the Restoration were all about? Then we have a class for you! During five Sundays in Lent (March 10th through April 7th) we will have a special class during the Sunday School hour focused on the following topics:

Sunday March 10th: Foundations of Faith, from Jesus up to the Reformation
Sunday March 17th: The Reformation Period
Sunday March 24th: The Restoration Movement and beginnings of the DOC, the 1800s
Sunday March 31st: The formation of a denomination, 1900s through today
Sunday April 7th: Women in Disciples History (in Fellowship Hall)

If you missed a class, don’t fret. The audio and the handouts from previous sessions are available from the links below, and you may still come to any of the upcoming classes. This class is for anyone interested in church history, but especially for new members who have never been through an introductory Disciples class, or anyone who is thinking about becoming a member of Southern Hills. The first four classes will be taught by Lisa Wynn (and held in the chapel), and the final class will be a special presentation on Women in Disciples History, taught by Professor Lisa Barnett, PhD, from Phillips Theological Seminary (and held in Fellowship Hall). All ages (including youth) are welcome. We need to have an estimate of class size in order to determine how to set up the room, so please sign up at the table in the gathering area, or speak directly with Lisa Wynn, or email her at ljwynn@cox.net.
